Analy throws a wrench into the baseball rankings

My baseball rankings already took a hit with Analy knocking off Montgomery in the championship game of the Rabinovitz Tournament.

Montgomery, ranked No. 1, has lost three games this season, two to Analy.

In baseball, more than any other sport, one game can be determined by a number of factors. A team’s ace may be going or not.

Casa Grande, the No. 2 ranked team, lost to Petaluma last week. Petaluma has a slightly losing record, but is second, and ahead of Analy (by a half game) in the SCL standings. Casa also won both its games in its own Westcott Tournament.

No. 3 Cardinal Newman lost to Bishop O’Dowd, 6-4, in the Westcott Tournament, but is still just a game behind Montgomery in the NBL.

Analy has just three losses, but two of those have come in league (one against Casa Grande), and was ranked No. 4.

Rancho Cotate, which has lost two of its last three NBL games, was ranked No. 5, tied with Petaluma, who appears to be making a charge.

The small-school baseball rankings are 1. Fort Bragg, 2. Clear Lake, 3. St. Vincent, 4. Kelseyville, and tied at No. 5 between Middletown and Cloverdale.
