Cal Hi ranks best baseball teams in the state

Cal Hi Sports has ranked the state’s top 20 high school baseball teams. The best teams, obviously, have the best records and that probably means more than just one pitching ace. The teams with the deepest staffs are usually the best. All these teams have good hitting.

The only Empire team receiving mention is “on the bubble” Casa Grande at 6-2. If you play the “they beat so and so who beat so and so” game, Casa has a case for Archbishop Mitty’s No. 6 state ranking. Casa beat No. 14 Bellarmine, which beat No. 6 Mitty, hence Casa is No. 6.

Casa did lose to Serra and Dublin, but it’s still kind of cool to try and size up the area teams against the best in the state.

Analy, Montgomery, Rancho Cotate and Cardinal Newman are all playing good ball along with Casa. Sonoma is young, but still has pitching ace Ben Graff.

The top four teams ranked in the state by Cal Hi Sports are:

1. Mater Dei of Santa Ana

2. Cathedral Catholic of San Diego

3. Clovis West

4. Elk Grove

CIF would love to hold a state baseball championship, but still hasn’t figure how to cram it into graduation, proms, senior trips and all the rest of a hectic end of the school year schedule.
