Update from Cardinal Newman

Cardinal Newman is playing McKinleyville in the quarterfinals of the NCS Division IV basketball playoffs. Check back throughout the night for updates at the end of each quarter.

FIRST QUARTER UPDATE: Cardinal Newman 16, McKinleyville 7 at the end of one.

Tony Baldocchi had seven points to lead the Cardinals. Cardinal Newman hit three 3-pointers in the quarter and had five steals. Danny Binz had two of the team’s five steals.

HALFTIME UPDATE: Cardinal Newman 32, McKinleyville 15

Bobby Sharp had five points, including a 3-pointer in the second quarter. Baldocchi continued his good game with seven more points, for a total of 14 first-half points.

Baldocchi is the seventh player in Cardinal Newman history to go over 1,000 points.

THIRD-QUARTER UPDATE: McKinleyville has made this somewhat of a game, finishing a strong third quarter trailing by 13 to Cardinal Newman, 50-37.

John Spull scored 14 points in the quarter for McKinleyville, keeping them in the game.

Cardinal Newman’s Jaime Ford scored five points to finish the quarter for the Cardinals.

END-OF-GAME UPDATE: Cardinal Newman beat McKinleyville 69-46.

Chris Pender had 16 points to lead McKinleyville.

Cardinal Newman’s defense came up with 18 steals. Binz and Baldocchi had four steals each.
