Can anyone recall a longer field goal?

Eduardo Farias’s 53-yard field goal for Rancho Cotate could very well be the longest ever kicked in a high school game in our area.

I’ve been covering local sports since 1978 and I know I haven’t seen a longer field goal or heard about one.

If anyone out there remembers a field goal of 50-yards plus in an Empire game, let me know.

Skimming through the 2005 CalHiSports football record book shows the longest field goal by a California high school player was Erik Affholter’s 64-yarder for Agoura Oak Park against Carpinteria in 1982.

Dana Jacobsen of Leigh High in San Jose is second in state history with a 61-yard field goal against Los Gatos in 1985.

The state record book lists all those who have kicked 56-yard field goals or better and three years ago there were 39 field goals of 56 yards or better.
