No. 1s unchanged, but races tighten

High School Large-school rankings for Oct. 15:

1. Maria Carrillo – Not overwhelming good teams, but bottom line is the Pumas still haven’t lost a game.
2. Sonoma Valley – Huge test for the Dragons at Analy this week.
3. Analy – Tigers just love their muddy, narrow field. You don’t want to play them at their house.
4. Elsie Allen – For a team that didn’t play a single preseason game, the Lobos are doing just fine, thank you.
5. Santa Rosa – Can Panthers win on the road at Carrillo or Monty?
6. Ukiah – There are those who think the Wildcats have a distinct home advantage, but look at them on the road, face it, they are are just a good team.
7. Windsor – Jags get a Petaluma test this week.
8. Montgomery – Can Vikings keep their hot streak going?
9. Cardinal Newman – Up and down Cardinals are down right now.
10. Healdsburg – Role for ‘Hounds now is simply that of spoiler.
11. Casa Grande – Gauchos lost a game to the rain last week.
12. El Molino – Seems like every week the Lions are upsetting someone. If they beat Analy this week they need to pass Go and advance straight to the Top 10.
13. Petaluma – Cellar of the SCL is not a fun place to be.
14. Piner – Tightened up defense and played Carrillo tough.
15. Rancho Cotate – Four NBL games left and they still don’t own a NBL victory.

1. Montgomery – Perfect season is gone, now Vikings can focus on an undefeated season
2. Maria Carrillo – Pumas get final test at Vikings just to see where they stand heading to the playoffs.
3. Casa Grande – While the Gauchos may not win it all, a high seeding will help them in the playoffs, so this week is important.
4. Santa Rosa – Panthers also get another shot at the Vikes, at home this time.
5. Petaluma – Trojans still in position to make SCL look like a very competitive league.
6. Ursuline – Huge tie at Montgomery ought to provide big push toward playoffs.
7. Windsor – If Jags can beat both Petaluma teams this week they might be raising a SCL flag at season’s end.
8. Sonoma Valley – It might all come down to season-ender against Windsor.
9. Analy – Tigers’ season slipped away with a pair of 2-1 losses last week.
10. Piner – Prospectors battled at Ukiah but came out on the short end.
11. Rancho Cotate – Three losses in a row aren’t helping the Cougars down the stretch.
12. Ukiah – Final three games are at home, just what the Wildcats ordered.
13. Healdsburg – Last week: no goals, no wins, no ties.
14. El Molino – If a 3-1 loss is a moral victory then the Lions got one against the Dragons.
15. Elsie Allen – Lobos have at least scored in their last three games, but they are still searching for that first win.
