Analy boys, Casa girls move up

High School Large-school rankings for Oct. 9:

1. Maria Carrillo – Still unbeaten, but should get a test at Ukiah.
2. Sonoma Valley – Dragons are the second best team in the Empire. No question.
3. Analy – Twin tests from Petaluma teams this week and it probably won’t be easy.
4. Santa Rosa – Panthers quietly putting together a stellar season, now can they beat Newman for a second time…
5. Elsie Allen – Lobos held their own with Newman, but they have trouble with Ukiah.
6. Ukiah – Wildcats keep hanging on, but home games with Lobos and Pumas this week should tell us how good they really are.
7. Cardinal Newman – Cardinals tied MC, but sometime they need to string some wins together.
8. Windsor – Sorry, Jags, but you lost to the Lions and dropped like a rock from No. 2 to No. 8.
9. Montgomery – Vikings the best 6th-place league team you’ll find … but they are still missing a 100 percent Nico, a lot.
10. Healdsburg – ‘Hounds probably need to run the table now. Can they do it?
11. Casa Grande – Gauchos need to come up big against the Tigers and the ‘Hounds this week.
12. Petaluma – So far the season highlight is a tie with the ‘Hounds.
13. El Molino – OK, Lions, you beat the then-No. 2 Jags. We can only applaud you now. Well done.
14. Piner – For the last two weeks (0-3-1) the Prospectors season has been going in the wrong direction.
15. Rancho Cotate – Cougars still don’t own a NBL win and they haven’t scored since Sept. 20.

1. Montgomery – Vikings only played once a week ago, rest probably helped.
2. Maria Carrillo – Should coast this week unless they see the date with Monty on the horizon.
3. Casa Grande – At some point the SCL teams have to be taken very seriously, so how about now?
4. Santa Rosa – Panthers only had one test last week and they didn’t pass it.
5. Petaluma – Trojans likely to chase that SCL title all the way to the end.
6. Windsor – Clinging to the co-lead in the SCL.
7. Sonoma Valley – Solo game this week and it should be an easy win.
8. Ursuline – Bears working their way back into a possible postseason berth.
9. Piner – Two games on the road and a split would be just fine.
10. Analy – Tigers are a .500 team with the word spoiler written all over them.
11. Rancho Cotate – Game at SR this week will be a good barometer of the Cougars’ season.
12. Ukiah – Hoping season can end on a high note.
13. Healdsburg – ‘Hounds had a two-game winning streak last week.
14. El Molino – Lions hoping to snap winless SCL season.
