TEAM NEWS AND NOTES

—————

Posted Sept. 14

– SRJC goalie Kiki Castro recorded the 5-0 shutout against American River and standout play from defender Desmond Rodriguez, Mickey Daly, the stopper, center mids Carlos Hernandez and Daniel Garcia and outside mid Justin Serreira. Hector Angeles and Devin Collins played well on top.

Posted Sept. 7

Maybe SF City College never knew what hit it. Aimee Cohen scored five goals and Nikki Poole three in a 10-0 on Friday. Cohen scored four times before the ink was dry on the original lineup scorecard.

Posted
Sept. 5:

The SRJC men’s split two games (lost to Herkimer (N.Y.), 2-0; beat Genesee (N.Y.), 3-1) over the Labor Day holiday….four players make the all-tournament team: Justin Ferreira, Arthur Bahr, Mickey Daly and Desmond Rodriguez….following are some of the factoids of the trip:
-1 player had never been on an airplane before
-26 had never been on a subway
-29 had never been to Yankee Stadium
-28 had never been across the Brooklyn Bridge
The team also visited the soccer and baseball Hall of Fames; Ground Zero; Ellis Island; the Statue of Liberty and Times Square.

Posted Sept. 5:

Niki Poole (Casa Grande, leading SCL goal-scorer in ’06) and Vanessa Nieto (Maria Carillo) are both playing at the JC this fall. Nieto had a scholarship to Long Beach State but decided to go to the JC. She is still recovering from an ankle injury…
Alex Fisher, the SRJC goalie, came back to the JC after a spring at Pace (N.Y.) University. Health problems brought her home and she decided to play her sophomore year at the JC….
JC head coach Emiria Salzmann and one of her assistants, Crystal Howard, are SSU alumni. Salzmann coached Howard on the Sol women’s team the past two summers. Howard made 3rd Team All-WPSL this past season….

Posted Sept. 2

In the SSU men’s 3-1 win over Western Washington on Saturday, Andrew Bailey posted a hat trick ” all three goals came in the second half. It was the first for the Seawolves since Nathan Medina in 2005. Bailey now had 29 career goals, tying the junior for fourth on the all-time SSU list with Joel Heffren.

Posted Aug. 29

– Talk about balance. In their opening 4-0 win over Cabrillo, the SRJC men’s team got four goal from four different players.

Posted Aug. 28

– SRJC women dominated in shots (15 to 6) and corner kicks. Bear Cubs failed to convert on three one-vs-one with keeper at Solano.

Posted Aug. 26

The men’s All-Tournament team for the Seawolf Classic: Outstanding Keeper: Vincent Licciardi, Grand Canyon Def: Doug Carr, SSU; Def: Eric Forner, SSU; Def: Zlatan Sahmanovic, Humboldt State; Def: Scott Preckwinkle, SSU; MF: Steven Browne, SSU; MF: John Fishbauger, Seattle U.; MF: Eric Lafon, SSU; MF: Andrew Kreiter, SU; F: Jason Cascio, SU; F: Andrew Bailey, SSU; F: Jon Eseman, HSU; At-Large: Emerson DeOliveira, SU; MVP Defense: Doug Carr, SSU; MVP Offense: Jason Cascio, SU

So, do you think that the SSU men dominated Grand Canyon Friday afternoon? The Seawolves outshot the Antelopes, 30-5, and had a 14-1 advantage in corner kicks. But…the game ended in a 0-0 tie…

Posted Aug. 23

– It’s not too late. SRJC head coach Marty Kinahan and his players will be serving you from 5-7 p.m. today (Aug. 23) at the Mission Plaza McDonald’s in Santa Rosa. The Bear Cubs get 25 percent of all proceeds, which will be used to offset the costs of the SRJC September trip to New York.
