SRU opens with a "Friendly" win

The title of the get-together may not sound all that competitive ” the Women’s Nike Friendlies ” but it’s doubtful any of the matches aren’t ultra-competitive.

Santa Rosa United U-17 gold team (aka Freeze) won its opening match on Thursday, 2-0 over Slammers FC (Newport Beach) at the Home Depot Center in Carson.

Windsor High’s Ashley Freyer and Montgomery’s Lauren Johnson scored for SRU.

After getting a day off on Friday (Sept. 29), SRU returns to action on Saturday (Sept. 30) against Real Colorado at 10 a.m.

The friendlies, which are intended to showcase some of the nation’s top women’s players for college coaches, continue through Sunday.
