Redemption for Rancho kicker Wiedman

Posted by Press Democrat Staff Writer Michael Coit: Despite the high scoring affair, the coldest player on the Rancho Cotate sidelines Friday night may have been kicker Julian Wiedman.
The junior missed wide on the extra point following the Cougars’ first touchdown, with a high snap seeming to throw off his timing. Wiedman then watched Rancho Cotate go for two-point conversions following the next five touchdowns over nearly three quarters of play.
While Coach Ed Conroy kept attempting to make up for that missed kick, Wiedman waited for his opportunity at redemption. He kicked balls into the practice net on the sideline, often on his own beyond the end of the Cougars bench.
Then Wiedman and his silver Nike cleats got back into the game. He booted extra points following Rancho Cotate’s final two scores.
