Sol on their way

The Sonoma County Sol will try to make it 1-for-3 in 11 days (July 31) when they travel to Madison, Wis. for the National Premier Soccer League’s Final Four.

Sol won the right to represent the West Region with a 2-1 victory Saturday night over NorCal LaMorinda United. It will be their third trip to the Final Four in the last three years. Sol has never won the title.

“We took an early lead on a goal by Trevor Hurst,” Sol head coach Ben Ziemer said of Saturday’s game at Santa Rosa High, “they tied it on a PK and then we got a goal in extra time of the first half by Brandon Boone.”

After that Sol went into a defensive mode and with the help of some of the reserves they maintained the lead.

“It was a very rough game,” Ziemer said, “they (LaMorinda) play a very physical style.”

Prior to the journey to the midwest, Sol will go to Sanford, Fla. to play in the U.S. Amateur Cup this week.
