Ex-Healdsburg star Garcia no longer playing football

Former Healdsburg football star Jared Garcia, one of the Empire’s top players in recent years, is not playing at Santa Rosa Junior College this season after collecting 29 catches for 526 yards and four touchdowns as a freshman in 2008.
Instead, Garcia, a three-sport star at Healdsburg, will play baseball for the Bear Cubs in the spring. Garcia was an all-Sonoma County League outfielder in high school.
SRJC football coach Keith Simons said his former wide receiver could have played football at a four-year college. Garcia had 1,261 receiving yards and was named the Empire’s co-Defensive Player of the Year as a senior at Healdsburg.
