QB change at Cardinal Newman

In an effort to make better use of their best player, Cardinal Newman has moved senior Jack James from quarterback to, well, all over the field.
The 6-foot-1, 210-pound James is playing tight end, wide receiver and even quarterback in some situations. In addition, he is playing full-time at strong safety after playing sparingly on defense in the Cardinals’ first three games, when he was at quarterback.
Promising sophomore Matt Sullivan, who was playing wide receiver and returning kicks, has replaced James at quarterback. The 5-foot-9, 170-pound Sullivan completed 24 of 44 passes for 315 yards with three touchdowns and no interceptions in wins against Elsie Allen and Piner. James caught 7 passes for 117 yards against Piner last week.
“It’s a matter of trying to find a way to get our best athletes on the field,” Cardinal Newman coach Paul Cronin said.
