Borowicz sick; NBL singles championship postponed

North Bay League commissioner Marie Sugiyama had a tough call to make today. And there was no rulebook to follow.
Montgomery senior Monica Borowicz, the three-time NBL singles champion, was scheduled to play teammate Emily Gould in the league singles championship. But Borowicz developed a sore throat and fever and was unable to play. Sugiyama decided to grant Borowicz a postponement rather than declaring Gould a winner by default.
The match will be held at 3:30 p.m. Monday at Santa Rosa High.
“I did what I thought would be best for the girls involved,” Sugiyama said. “There were no guidelines in place for me to follow, so I did what I thought was right. I do plan to get together with the league coaches to develop guidelines for a situation like this in the future.”
