Thumbs-up for St. Vincent's new field

The new artificial field at St. Vincent is a huge upgrade over the previous grass and dirt field.
Kiely Field at Yarbrough Stadium is a state-of-the-art surface, among the newest of the artificial fields to emerge in the Redwood Empire. There doesn’t seem to be the heavy rubber blow up from the field as players cut and stop. Most of these fields are made of recycled rubber tires and as such there is an underlying mass of the “stuff” that can be readily seen flying up into the air.
I’m told that stands for the visitor’s side of the field are in the works, as well as an expansion of the stands on the home side. There is room for perhaps 20 to 30 fans to sit, so the fans on the north side of the field have to bring their own chairs. Kiely Field will also accommodate baseball and soccer.
* It was first reported Saturday that a key fumble recovery by St. Vincent was made by Mitch Reddick. I have been informed the fumble was actually recovered by Connor Ciocci.
* Finally, I think it’s time to recognize the work of Gary von Raesfeld, who supplies us reporters with statistics and information for St. Vincent. He is, perhaps, the most detailed of any of the information people we work with at games. Covering high school sports can be stressful. Unlike major college or professional sports, most high school reporters have to keep their own stats and play sheets. Von Raesfeld is always ready with as much information as needed, and he seems to relish his role. I’ve been working with von Raesfeld for 13 years. His detailed stats and notes are much appreciated. Thanks, Gary.
