Maya DiRado and Michael Phelps

Posted by Staff Writer Eric Branch:
Maria Carrillo’s Maya DiRado, one of the nation’s top high school swimmers, will leave Nov. 7 for the FINA World Cup events as a member of the USA National Youth Team. During DiRado’s 10-day trip, she will compete in Stockholm and Berlin.
Pretty cool, huh?
That’s what DiRado thought. Then she found out someone who is kind of well known in the swimming community would be traveling with the team in the role of USA National team mentor.
The mentor? Michael Phelps, the guy with all the gold medals.
DiRado, of course, just verbally committed to Stanford.
I’d say things are going OK for DiRado, who, by the way, won’t turn 17 until April.
