Casa Grande RB Keys has ankle strain

Casa Grande senior running back Kahlil Keys suffered a myofascial strain, or a deep tissue bruise, around his upper left ankle Friday night, but he is determined to play next week against Healdsburg.
After the Gauchos’ 31-14 win against Windsor, Keys had precautionary X-rays at Kaiser Permanente in Terra Linda to rule out a possible fracture.
“I’m definitely not going to miss next week’s game,” Keys said. “It’s an important game and I should be good to go. I’m going to do everything the doctor told me to do to get ready.”
Casa Grande coach Trent Herzog will take a wait-and-see approach with his star running back, who has rushed for 835 yards and 14 touchdowns this season. Herzog expects Keys to be a game-time decision.
“If he can run and he’s at 85 or 90 percent, we’ll probably use him,” Herzog said. “But if he’s out, we’ll go to (backup) Javonnie (Oden) and rely more on the passing game.”
Keys had 37 yards on 6 carries and scored two touchdowns against Windsor. He left after breaking several tackles on a nine-yard run with 31 seconds left in the second quarter.
Casa Grande quarterback Nick Sherry suffered a mild ankle sprain against Windsor. Sherry returned to the game after the injury and is expected to play at Healdsburg.
