Camp for a Cure

The sixth annual Camp for a Cure baseball camp will be held Saturday at Casa Grande High.
The one-day camp, which includes local major leaguers Brandon Morrow (Seattle Mariners) and Tommy Everidge (Oakland A’s), also features the area’s top coaches and scouts. The suggested donation is $50. All proceeds go to the American Cancer Society, the Lupus Foundation of America and the American Diabetes Association. The camp, which attracted 230 kids last year, has raised over $40,000 since 2004.
The camp is open for ages 8-15. Players 13-15 will receive instruction from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. and those 8-12 will receive instruction from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Petaluma’s Jonny Gomes of the Cincinnati Reds will not be able to attend because his wife, Kristi, gave birth to the couple’s first child Wednesday in Scottsdale, Ariz. Gomes has provided several items for the silent auction, including two signed bats, two signed balls and a Reds jersey.
