Franci’s first win and other stuff

Posted by Staff Writer Eric Branch:
Montgomery coach Jason Franci doesn’t remember his first game as the Vikings’ coach in 1980. Or his second game. His first win? Please. He’s got no clue.
With Franci tied with Ed Lloyd as the Empire’s all-time winningest coach with 217 wins, here’s a look back at some stuff Franci doesn’t remember:
* Franci made his debut as Montgomery’s coach on Sept. 13, 1980 at San Rafael. The Vikings tied San Rafael, 0-0.
* Franci coached his first home game at Montgomery on Sept. 19, 1980. The Vikings lost to Casa Grande, 5-0.
* Franci got his first win on Sept. 27, 1980 against visiting Piner. Montgomery won, 12-6.
* Under Franci, Montgomery played Ed Lloyd’s teams 13 times. The Vikings had a 7-6 record in those games (2-4 when Lloyd was at Newman, 5-1 against Piner and 0-1 against Analy).
