What you might have missed

Here’s some of the skinny from the Casa Grande-Healdsburg and Cardinal Newman-Ukiah games:
* Casa Grande running back Kahlil Keys did not play due to an ankle strain. Gauchos coach Trent Herzog said Keys will likley be a game-time decision this week for their season finale against El Molino. Don’t be surprised if Keys sits another game out to get ready for the playoffs.
* Casa Grande’s Javonnie Oden filled in for Keys and had 151 yards on 19 carries with a 13-yard touchdown run.
* Gauchos junior quarterback Nick Sherry didn’t start due to a sprained ankle which caused him to miss three days of practice. After Casa Grande failed to score on its first three series, Sherry entered and completed 12 of 19 passes for 161 yards with one interception and two touchdowns. Sherry tossed a 40-yard touchdown to Makana Garrigan and had a 27-yard scoring strike to Tyler White.
* Cardinal Newman attempted just three passes. But the one the Cardinals completed — a 64-yard pass from Jack James to Bryson Dumont — gave them a 7-0 first-quarter lead.
* Newman linebacker Blake Ratto returned a fumble 55 yards and Matt Bowman had an 11-yard run to account for Newman’s other touchdowns. Tyler Laron led the Cardinals with 75 yards on 15 carries.
* Cardinals coach Paul Cronin said he’s added some new wrinkles to the double-wing offense, but he kept the attack basic Friday in a game the Cardinals never trailed.
