Analy/Windsor after the fact

Analy's Taylor Varnadore (20) and Windsor's David Mendez (17) battle for a loose ball at Analy on Wednesday night.

Observations after watching the Windsor 2-1 win over Analy on Wedneday night:

– Corner Kicks has them ranked Nos. 1 & 2. The outcome on Wednesday won’t change that a bit. They are still the two best teams in the Empire.

– The Jags win because of two things – talent and a work rate that is off the chart.

– David Mendez (Windsor) and Taylor Varnadore (Analy) are two of the best, if not the best period, players in the Empire. Can’t wait to see where they will play at the next level. Vow here is to attend some of their collegiate games if they aren’t too far away.

– Analy gets a rightfully called pk and Jags’ goalie Chris Hernandez admittedly starts talking trash. The ref tries to stop him, he continues, the yellow card comes out and Chris is sent to the sideline while a sub goalie tries in vain to stop Taylor’s successful pk shot. That was the biggest bummer of the night. It really would have been something special to see maybe the best goalie around try to stop one of the best players. Next time, Chris, do us all a favor and play the game and talk later.

– The Analy field was in remarkable shape considering Tuesday’s rains. Probably the ground was so hard to begin with it was like rain on the freeway.

– Final word – Windsor is good (and we’ll see just how good at 5 p.m. Saturday when they entertain Marin Catholic at Wilson Ranch Park) but Analy isn’t finished yet. Just a thought.
