Eureka vs. Montgomery: Pregame quotes

Posted by Staff Writer Eric Branch:
* Montgomery coach Jason Franci when I told him people on the street didn’t seem to think his team could win, “Tell the people on the street that we’re going to show up.”
* Montgomery defensive coordinator Marcelo Bautista on stopping Eureka running back Soma Vainuku, “We have to line up correctly and play good fundamental football. It’s one big running back against 11 guys on defense. We have to play great team defense.”
* Bautista on Eureka’s physical running game, “They are going to come right at us and our kids are up for the challenge. We’re going to hit them fast, we’re going to hit them hard and we’re going to hit them often.”
* Montgomery 180-pound cornerback Dylan Smallcomb on his game plan for tackling Vainuku, “I think you go low and hope he doesn’t hurdle you. Everyone has been trying to tackle him low this season and we’re hoping to do a little bit better job of that.”
* Eureka usually carries a 48-man roster, but the Loggers have gone with just 38 players this season. Eureka coach Garett Montana explained, “We cleaned out the characters that crumble.”
* After each playoff game, the Loggers have immediately gone to their locker room and sung “Ain’t No Mountain High Enough” together before returning to the field. Just reporting.
* Montana on guarding against overconfidence, “I don’t think they’re overconfident. It doesn’t feel that way and it didn’t feel that way last week. Whatever it is they’re feeling seems to be working for them. I don’t want to bring them down in any way.”
