Austin Shull and Shawn Swanson have been selected for this year’s Sonoma County scholarships from the Northern California Chapter of the National Football Foundation and College Hall of Fame.
Shull, a Montgomery High School linebacker/safety, and Swanson, a Petaluma High School lineman, will each receive $1,000 scholarships during a banquet at the San Francisco Airport Marriott on Fe. 25.
At Montgomery, Shull led the Vikings in tackles, was their leading punt returner, and also played some wide receiver.
Swanson anchored the Petaluma offensive line at left guard and played defensive tackle.
The Northern California Chapter chooses 24 scholarship recipients from 12 counties based on their work both on and off the field. Awards are based on academic achievement, school and community leadership, as well as their performance as football players. The chapter has awarded about $650,000 in scholarships to Northern California scholar-athletes since 1960.
The national foundation was established in 1947 by Grantland Rice, General Douglas MacArthur and Colonel Earl (Red) Blaik.
Tickets for the February event can be purchased for $55. For more information, phone 650-342-4775.
