Ukiah’s Walker won’t start against Cardinal Newman

Ukiah’s leading scorer Brett Walker will sit out at least the first half of the Wildcats’ key North Bay League meeting against visiting Cardinal Newman on Monday night.
Walker, a 6-foot-2 senior guard/foward, won’t start against Newman after missing practices and a game this week due to what Ukiah coach Bill Heath termed “personal reasons.” Walker, who earned first-team All-Empire honors in basketball and golf as a junior, leads the Wildcats with 15.5 points and 8.5 rebounds a game. He is shooting 44 percent (30 of 68) from 3-point range and has made 91 percent (62 of 68) of his free throws.
Without Walker, the Wildcats lost to Elsie Allen, 68-58, in overtime Thursday to snap a seven-game winning streak. Ukiah enters Monday’s meeting against Newman with a record of 16-2, including 5-1 in the NBL. The Cardinals are 14-4 and 6-0.
