The NBL title race: Montgomery, Newman and Ukiah

A funny thing happened to the Cardinal Newman boys’ basketball team on its way to the North Bay League title.
The Cardinals, who entered the week with a 26-game NBL winning streak, have dropped two straight home games to make the championship race very interesting.
Here’s the deal: On Friday night, Newman (11-2 in NBL) hosts Ukiah (10-3) and Montgomery (10-3) visits Santa Rosa (0-12 entering Thursday). If Ukiah and Montgomery win, they would share the NBL title with Newman. If Newman wins, it wins the title outright.
By the way, if there is a three-way tie, Ukiah would get the top seed in next week’s four-team NBL Tournament, Newman would get the No. 2 seed and Montgomery would be No. 3. The seedings would be determined by the combined head-to-head record in NBL play between the three schools: Ukiah would be 3-1 followed by Newman (2-2) and Montgomery (1-3).
