Sims, Waggoner to play at Humboldt State

Petaluma’s Ricky Sims, the Empire’s Large School Player of the Year, and Casa Grande’s Connor Waggoner have accepted partial scholarships to play football at Humboldt State.
Sims, a 5-foot-10, 215-pound fullback/linebacker, rushed for 1,302 yards and 23 touchdowns this past season. He also had 58 tackles and six sacks.
Waggoner, a 5-11, 200-pound wide receiver/linebacker, had 85 tackles and a team-high seven sacks. He added 42 catches for 679 yards and five touchdowns and was a first-team All-Empire selection.
Humboldt State is a Division II program that went 5-5 this past season. The Lumberjacks had several players from the Empire on their roster last year: Robert Keegan (Montgomery); Max Apodaca (El Molino); Riordan Gomez (Casa Grande); Garrett Edwards (Ukiah) and Kory Langhals (Windsor).
