NCS basketball quarterfinal previews: Boys

Division II
No. 8 San Lorenzo (15-12) at No. 1 Montgomery (22-6), 8 p.m.
About San Lorenzo: Senior guard Gurprett Sandher scored eight of his 13 points in the fourth quarter in San Lorenzo’s 52-38 first-round win over No. 9 Las Lomas. Senior guard Demarr Eagles had a team-high 15 points … the Rebels have posted their most wins in at least five years … Brandon Parks is in his first year as San Lorenzo’s coach.
About Montgomery: The Vikings have won eight straight, a streak that has roughly coincided with the emergence of 6-foot-9 junior center Ben Freeland. Coach Tom Fitchie says Freeland’s improved play inside has made the Vikings less reliant on 3-point shots and more difficult to defend. Freeland, who is averaging 12.5 points a game, averaged 15.5 points to help lead the Vikings to the NBL Tournament title last week … five of the eight wins during the winning streak have been by six points or less … Montgomery has won three NCS titles since 1998, the last in 2006 … the Vikings are seeking their first playoff win since 2007 … junior guard Alec Kobre lead the Vikings with 14.5 points a game and guard Zack Templeton (8.5), Justin Connell (8.3) and Quentin Mendoza (8.3) round out a balanced lineup.

No. 11 Alameda (18-9) at No. 3 Ukiah (21-6), 7:30 p.m.
About Alameda: The Hornets’ 75-60 first-round win over No. 6 Northgate was their first NCS Division II playoff win since 1996 … senior guard Taylor Takahashi scored a game-high 22 points against Northgate … Alameda lost to Elsie Allen, 60-53, on Dec. 17. Ukiah went 1-1 against Elsie Allen this season.
About Ukiah: The Wildcats will be playing their first game since Feb. 17 … junior point guard Cesar Mendoza is averaging 11.9 points, 7.4 assists and 3.9 steals per game … senior forward Brett Walker (team-high 14.2 points) has made 42 percent of his 3-pointers (38 of 91) and 92 percent of his free throws (108 of 118) … six players are averaging at least 6 points a game … Ukiah lost in the NCS quarterfinals last year.

Division III
No. 7 Terra Linda (18-11) at No. 2 Analy (28-1), 8 p.m.
About Terra Linda: Senior guard Kenny Woodard (team-high 16.1 points) scored 26 points and made six 3-pointers in a 79-73 first-round win against San Marin. Woodard’s mom, a single parent, was killed in a shooting in Richmond last year … 6-foot-8 center Mike Best is averaging 10.9 points and 8.0 rebounds a game.
About Analy: The Tigers have won 24 straight and 47 of their past 49 games dating back to last year. Analy has won 22 games by at least 10 points during their winning streak … junior guard Max Fujii (16.0 points), the Sonoma County League MVP, has scored in double figures in 31 of his past 34 games … seven Tigers have scored in double figures in Analy’s past three games … Analy’s only loss was a 63-61 setback against Amador on Dec. 5 … senior guards Kevin Aronis (13.6) and Isias Alcantar (10.8) are the Tigers’ second- and third-leading scorers … junior guard Eli Alcantar was named the SCL Defensive Player of the Year.
