World Cup book worth your attention … and $10

I am holding in my hands 82 pages of pure delight.

It is called the “2010 World Cup Survival Guide.”

Written, composed, hatched, corner-kicked … however you might want to frame it, by former Press Democrat entertainment writer John Beck, this little guide is built to fit snugly in one’s backpocket and tells you just about everything you will need for his craziest of all every-4th-year sporting event.

And for those of us who love the game of futbol, be it played by U10 girls at Ragle Ranch or by Landon Donovan, here is another resource you need – at least for the next month.

It includes a rundown of the groups, the teams, the venues, places in the Bay Area to watch the games, drinking games to play while you watch (yes, at 7 a.m.). pertinent websites, trivia, TV coverage and a log of every game so when you are 63 like moi you can relive the glory that was the 2010 World Cup.

For 10 bucks it’s a steal and a dollar of that 10 goes to the charity Street Soccer USA.

You can buy it at all four Copperfield’s locatiions, at Book Passage, Rosso Pizza and behind the bar at Toad in the Hole. And if you want an author-autographed copy, let me know and I’ll set you up.
