Ever seen a sub-four-minute mile?

The Heart and Sole Elite Mile will be held at 9 p.m. Friday at Santa Rosa High following the conclusion of the All-City track meet.
A sub-four-minute mile has never been run in Sonoma County, but that could change Friday. The 10-person men’s field will include two professionals who have run the mile in under four minutes. That duo consists of Bolota Asmerom, a former star at Cal who competed in the 2000 Olympics for his native country of Eritrea and Tim Bayley of Great Britain, a former All-American at Iona College. J.K. Withers, a former standout at Cardinal Newman and Oregon who has run a 4:03 mile, will also be in the field.
Jon Rankin of Nike, a former All-American at UCLA who is also in the sub-four-minute club, was scheduled to compete but had to withdraw due to a scheduling conflict.
The women’s field will include ex-Montgomery standout Kim Conley, who owns UC Davis’ school record in the 5,000 meters. Conley has qualified in the 10,000 meters for this summer’s USA Outdoor Track and Field Championships in Des Moines, Iowa. A recent addition to the women’s field is Jane Kibii of Kenya. Kibii owns the women’s course record at the Napa-to-Sonoma Half Marathon and is the only woman to win back-to-back titles at the Carlsbad Half Marathon.
The women’s race will be held first followed by the men’s race. A raffle that will include Adidas shoes and products from local businesses will be held between races. After the races, fans will have a chance to meet the athletes at Heart and Sole on Brookwood Ave. in Santa Rosa. Free pizza will be provided.
