From the pros to preps

Here’s a story from MaxPreps’ Mitch Stephens on former Raiders and Buccaneers coach Jon Gruden signing on as a volunteer offensive line coach at Carrollwood Day in Tampa, Fla.
As Stephens mentions, Gruden is one of several former high-profile coaches or players to take high school coaching positions, a list that includes two who have recently taken over Bay Area programs.
In mid-April, former NFL linebacker Hardy Nickerson, a five-time Pro Bowl selection, was hired as the head coach at Bishop O’Dowd in Oakland.
Last week, Russell White, Cal’s all-time leading rusher, was hired at Castlemont in Oakland.
In the Empire, El Molino coach Mike Roan, in his fifth season at the school, is a former NFL tight end.
