Cloverdale's Rowland expected to be selected early in MLB Draft

Cloverdale senior right-hander Robby Rowland could make his final high school start Wednesday when the ninth-seeded Eagles visit No. 8 Salesian in the first round of the North Coast Section Division IV playoffs.
If so, there’s a question of where Rowland will make his next start after high school. The Eagles’ 6-foot-6 flamethrower has signed with Oregon, but he could be selected in the first three rounds of the Major League Baseball Draft from June 7-9. Rowland will decide whether he will attend Oregon based on where he is drafted.
Baseball America pegs Rowland to be selected in the third or fourth round. Rowland is 7-1 with a 0.32 ERA and has struck out 117 in 65 innings. He says he’s met with scouts from 30 MLB teams during his senior year. Based on those meetings, he expects to be taken in the second or third round. A typical signing bonus for a player selected at the beginning of the third round is $500,000.
