Rowland taken in third round of MLB Draft by D'Backs

Posted by Staff Writer Eric Branch:
The Arizona Diamondbacks selected Cloverdale High pitcher Robby Rowland in the third round of the Major League Baseball Draft this morning.
Rowland, a 6-foot-6 right-hander, was taken with the No. 88 overall pick. According to various publications, including Baseball America, Rowland was projected to be taken in the third or fourth round.
Donnie Joseph, a left-handed pitcher from the University of Houston, was taken with the No. 88 pick in the 2009 MLB Draft. Joseph received a signing bonus of $398,000.
Rowland, who has signed with Oregon, has said he would decide whether to attend college or sign a professional contract based on where he was drafted. I’m guessing his third-round selection doesn’t bode well for Oregon.
I’ll have more on Rowland throughout the day, including a story that will run in Wednesday’s paper.
