Rowland expects to sign pro contract

Cloverdale High right-hander Robby Rowland, who has signed with the University of Oregon, expects to sign a professional contract after being selected in the third round of the Major League Baseball Draft by the Arizona Diamondbacks today.
“That’s the plan, unless they lowball us with the money,” Rowland said. “And I don’t expect that to happen.”
Rowland, the 88th overall pick, said the Diamondbacks, Astros, Yankees and Giants expressed the most interest in him leading up to the draft.
Rowland is the highest Empire draft pick out of high school since Casa Grande pitcher Phill Lowery was selected in the second round of the 1995 draft by the Rangers with the 37th overall pick.
