Rowland brothers will be reunited

A day after he was selected in the third round of the Major League Baseball Draft by the Arizona Diamondbacks, Cloverdale High right-hander Robby Rowland got more good news Wednesday when his older brother and best friend, Richie, signed a free-agent contract with the Diamondbacks.
The pair will report to Missoula, Mt., the home of Arizona’s short-season rookie advanced team, next week. Missoula’s season opener is June 21 at Helena.
“We’ve been talking about this since we were little kids,” said Richie Rowland, 21, who is three years older than his brother. “It’s always one of those things we hoped would come true, but we figured it would probably never happen.”
Richie, a 6-foot-3, 230-pound catcher, recently completed his junior season at Campbellsville (Ky.) University, an NAIA school. He earned all-conference honors after hitting .376 with 11 homers and 61 RBIs, all team-highs. He also named to the conference’s Gold Glove team. Richie was selected in the 40th round of the 2007 MLB Draft by the Rockies and played two years at Santa Rosa Junior College.
The brothers last played together at Cloverdale High in 2007 when Robby was a freshman and Richie was a senior.
