Kovatch to Cal; Rizo to Dominican

Two more Empire soccer players have decided on a future collegiate destination.

Maria Carrillo High junior defender Riley Kovatch, the North Bay League player of the year, has committed to Cal after he finishes with the Pumas next season.

Kovatch anchored a Carrillo team that went undefeated in the regular season a year ago only to lose to eventual champion Novato in the NCS semifinals. As a sophomore he was a starter on the Pumas’ NCS championship team.

Windsor goalie Jill Rizo is all set to sign with Dominican University of California next week. Rizo will also play on the Penguins’ softball team.

In San Rafael she will join Carrillo’s Julianna Bratsberg and Petaluma’s Taylor Houston in next fall’s incoming freshman class. Bratsberg is a midfielder, Houston a defender.
