Kovatch suffers broken leg

The 2007 North Bay League Most Valuable Player and Press Democrat First Team All-Empire Soccer team selection, Riley Kovatch, suffered a broken right leg during a Santa Rosa United scrimmage game Sunday afternoon.

Kovatch, a Maria Carrillo High junior who has already committed to attend Cal where he will play soccer after he graduates in 2009, suffered the broken tibia when he collided with another player as both went for a 50-50 ball.

Kovatch’s SRU team, the Cosmos, is scheduled play in the Nomads College Showcase tournament this coming weekend.

He was taken from the soccer fields across the street from Cardinal Newman High to Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital for X-rays which revealed the break. Surgery will probably not be needed but Kovatch will be out of action and on crutches for approximately six weeks.
