Gauchos top seed in 3A NCS women's playoffs

The Casa Grande Gauchos, the defending Class 3A North Coast Section women’s champions, were awarded the No. 1 seed Sunday morning for this year’s NCS championships.

The seedings were as follows:


1. Casa Grande
2. Montgomery
3. Maria Carrillo
4. Petaluma
5. Santa Rosa
6. Ursuline
7. Windsor
8. Sonoma Valley
9. Eureka
10. McKinleyville

The tournament opens on Wednesday evening with Sonoma Valley travelling to Eureka and Windsor going to McKinleyville.

The winner of the Sonoma Valley-Eureka will play at Casa Grande on Saturday night while the Windsor-McKinleyville winner goes to Montgomery. Both games are tentatively set for 7 p.m.

The other Saturday quarterfinal round games will find Ursuline at Maria Carrillo (tentative 5 p.m. start) and Santa Rosa at Petaluma (tentatively at 7 p.m.)

Men’s seedings and pairings were to be announced later Sunday.
