First round is in the books

OK, round one is over and here is how we stack up as far as our local teams are concerned:

3A boys: We lose Sonoma Valley
A boys: We lose St. Helena, Anderson Valley and Roseland Prep
3A girls: We lose Sonoma Valley
A girls: We lose Kelseyville and Roseland Prep.

Advancing:

3A boys: Analy.
A boys: Fort Bragg, Cloverdale, Calistoga and Roseland Prep
3A girls: Windsor.
A girls: RV Christian and Potter Valley.

I’d say that’s about a .500 batting average.

Maybe the biggest surprise was both Sonoma Valley schools being eliminated. Figured at least one of the Dragon 11 would advance. Maybe next year.

Of course, Roseland Prep also saw both of its teams eliminated.

But on the bright side, the Windsor girls now get a shot at No. 2 seed Montgomery. The Jags will be huge underdogs playing on the Vikings’ artificial surface. But who knows, maybe they’ll catch the Vikes looking ahead.

On the boys side, Analy passed Test No. 1 with a win over San Rafael in penalty kicks, but it gets a lot more serious on Saturday night when the Tigers travel to Maria Carrillo to face the No. 1- seeded Pumas.

Combined, the two teams will enter the game with 34 wins. But it really should be a Carrillo win. Analy just doesn’t appear to have the overall talent to keep up with the Pumas. More on that in another blog.
