Guevera, four other Empire players honored by Cal-Pac Conference

Pedro Guevera, a 2007 Montgomery High graduate and currently a freshman at Dominican University in San Rafael, has been named the Freshman of the Year in the California Pacific Conference.
Guevera, who was also named to the all-conference second team, finished his initial collegiate season with 10 goals and an assist and helped lead the Penguins to a 11-4-3 (11-2-1 in conference) season and a second place finish in the Cal Pac behind Holy Names University.
Other Empire players honored by the conference on Wednesday were Ryan Vella (Piner), first team all-conference midfielder; Alec Ziegler (Montgomery), second team defender; Tim Pinella (Maria Carrillo) second team forward/midfielder; and Derek Wilkinson (Cardinal Newman), honorable mention defender.
Next season DU will move from its current NAIA classification to NCAA Div. II where it will compete in the Pacific West Conference.
The Pac West consists of four universities in Hawaii – Brigham Young University Hawaii, Chaminade University, Hawaii Pacific University and the University of Hawaii at Hilo – as well as Dixie State College in Utah, Grand Canyon University in Arizona, and Notre Dame de Namur University. San Francisco’s Academy of Art University recently joined the conference under exploratory status.
