Central Marin FC has a Sonoma County flavor

Too bad Sonoma County didn’t fare better in the CYSA North State Cup competition. Too bad our soccer players won’t get to showcase their talents at the next level ….

Hold on a minute. That isn’t exactly true.

On Sunday at Morgan Hill the Central Marin FC team won the U18 boys title with a 4-1 victory over the Turlock Tornados. Marin now advances to the USYSA Far West Regionals in Lancaster on June 15.

On the Marin team are Kyle Marsh (SR High) and Cody Levar, Cortland Forsyth and Riley Kovatch (all of Maria Carrillo High). Too bad there wasn’t a team or a commitment from players in Sonoma County to keep them up here so they could have been waving a SRU or SCA flag in Lancaster in mid-June.

Good luck to all of them. Let’s hope they make it to the nationals.

And, just to be perfectly clear, the SRU U11 Freeze girls team did win the State Cup trophy earlier this year, but the U11s don’t advance to Regional play. Congrats to the Freeze, well done!
