If there is anyone more excited about the upcoming high school season (yes, it is only about 10 weeks away) than John Schwan I’d like to hear from them.
Schwan, 29, is the new head boys coach at Santa Rosa High. He moves over from Montgomery High where he assisted Mark Dunn for the past two seasons.
So, what kind of team does he think he’ll have at SR?
“I am really excited about the players we have coming back,” Schwan said of the Panthers. “We gonna have some really good upperclassmen, many of whom play for a U17 Santa Rosa United team now so they should be able to pick up right where they leave off with that team when high school season starts.”
Schwan played as a sophomore at Montgomery and then stopped playing and started coaching and never looked back. He’s coached with the Annadel Soccer Club, with SRU (he coaches an Academy team there now) and then with the Vikings. He’s still chasing that elusive college degree with a political science major at SSU.
“We kind of came up through the soccer ranks together.” Dunn said of his former assistant. “He’s going to do a great job at Santa Rosa.”
As for Schwan, he can’t wait for the season to start.
“And I can’t wait to coach against Mark and Montgomery. That is going to a blast,” Schwan added.
John would probably tee it up tomorrow against the Vikings if he could…
