Petaluma High’s Schmidt makes the “big leagues”

It was relatively simple.

The announcer probably said something like this Monday night at Chase Field in Phoenix:

“Now batting for Juan Gutierrez for the Diamonbacks, No. 33 Konrad Schmidt.”

And with that, Petaluma High saw one of its own make it into the record books of Major League Baseball forever.

Schmidt, a catcher, was called up by the D-Backs earlier in the day after hitting .315 with 30 doubles, 11 homers and 65 runs batted in for Class AA Mobile.

Schmidt worked his way from the Petaluma High Trojans’ field to SRJC (where he helped the Bear Cubs win a state in title in ‘05) to the University of Nevada and into the minor league system of the D-Backs.

Finally, the 26-year-old made it to “the show” on Monday night.

For the record, Reds’ pitcher Logan Ondrusek walked him.
