If one sign of an excellent men’s soccer team is the ability to spread the ball around, then Santa Rosa Junior College is well on the way to a stellar season.

Friday afternoon at Modesto, the Bear Cubs scored twice in the second half as they got three goals from three different players and three assists from three more players en route to a 3-2 win over Modesto JC.

The victory improves the Bear Cubs’ record to 4-2, 1-1 in conference.

Scoring on Friday SRJC were Spencer Selak, Piner High grad Tyler Hurst and James Kabere. Bear Cubs’ assists were handed out to Shane Halbert, Miquel Santoyo and Vicente Sosa.

The next home game is at 4 p.m. Thursday against Napa College.

Earlier in the day, the SRJC women’s team blanked Yuba, 7-0, to improve to 3-0-2 as seven different players — Lisa Shaw, Lauren Curtin, Cara Curtin, Katie Deneau, Selam Solomon, Jazmine Whitlock and Sarah Halcomb – scored in the route.

The Bear Cub defense allowed only a pair of shots on goal.

SRJC’s next women’s game is 3:30 p.m. next Friday at Rocklin against Sierra JC.
