Big soccer week for SR boys; MC-Monty girls matchup set

Analy’s Eli Munger and Sonoma Valley’s Diego Benitez go up for the ball during the game held at Sonoma Valley, Sept. 30, 2010. (CRISTA JEREMIASON / PD).

Following a week which saw the Maria Carrillo girls continue on their undefeared ways and the Sonoma Valley boys upset Analy, we head into the first full week of October which will be pivotal for at least one team.

The Santa Rosa High boys will get back-to-back tests this week. First, on Tuesday, the Panthers go to Maria Carrillo to face the Pumas and then on Thursday they play host to the Montgomery Vikings.

Those two games will go a long way in determining the success or failure of the season for SR, a North Coast Section finalist a year ago.

On the girls side, in the Sonoma County League, Petaluma is facing trips to Analy on Monday and Windsor on Wednesday.

But the big game of the week, and maybe the regular season, comes at Montgomery at 7 p.m. Wednesday when perfect Carrillo travelss to face the Vikings.

Mark that one down on your soccer calendar.
