Friday football preview: SCL

El Molino (3-2, 0-1) at Petaluma (0-5, 0-1)
Friday, 7:30 p.m.
Last week: El Molino lost to Casa Grande, 27-6. Petaluma lost to Healdsburg, 33-0.
Notable: El Molino coach Mike Roan has to be looking forward to this game after his teams have been dominated in recent years by Petaluma … Last year, the Lions were on the short end of a 48-7 score in front of their home crowd … Petaluma is having a difficult year. The Trojans have not scored in their last three games … Before losing to Healdsburg in its SCL opener, Petaluma lost to Rancho, 49-0, and Ukiah, 7-0 … Coach Steve Ellison retired after winning league last year and finishing 12-1 while going deep into the NCS playoffs … Rick Krist is now at the helm … El Molino has already surpassed last year’s win total of two and part of the reason is that quarterback Mike Pierson has cut down on his interceptions. Last year, he had 18 to go along with 15 touchdowns. In 2010, he’s thrown for 12 scores with only four interceptions.
Number to note: 17 — That is the yardage receiver Joe Douglass has averaged while making 30 catches in 5 five games. He’s scored 6 TDs.

Casa Grande (4-0) at Ygnacio Valley (2-2)
Saturday, 1 p.m.
Last week: Casa Grande defeated El Molino, 27-6. Ygnacio Valley beat Skyline, 40-14.
Notable: Ignacio (Concord) plays in the Diablo Valley League … The Warriors lost to Acalanes, 9-0, in their opener. Healdsburg defeated Acalanes, 44-13, on October 1 … Quarterback Nick Sherry is having the kind of year that was expected. The senior has thrown for 815 yards, six touchdowns and only one interception … Sherry has completed passes to eight receivers with Makana Garrigan being his favorite. The two have hooked up 14 times with two TDs … Javonie Oden has been effective running the ball with 339 yards and four scores. He’s the only Gaucho with more than 60 yards on the ground … Garrigan is anchoring the defense with 28 tackles and 12 assists … Mat Floerke has recorded four sacks while Steve Bentley has three interceptions … Ygnacio hasn’t shown much spunk on offense. The Warriors are averaging 65 yards through the air and 128 on the ground … Grant Jones has caught 3 Tds for Ygnacio.
Number to note: 10 — That is the average points the stingy Casa Grande defense has been surrendering.
