Girls’ golf title in Carrillo’s sights

By MICHAEL COIT

Maria Carrillo appears headed to another North Bay League girls’ golf title, going undefeated with only two rounds of matches to play before the league championships.

Barring upsets, the Pumas will represent the NBL in the North Coast Section Tournament of Champions and Ukiah – now in second – would move on to the NCS Regional Qualifier.

The top three individuals in the NBL championships not on either of those teams also would get into the regional qualifier.

Third place Ursuline could make a new NCS championships for small schools based on choices by a selection committee. Teams in that tournament do not move on to the NorCal or California state finals.

Through Thursday’s matches, the top individuals are Kristina Schmul, Haley Begert-Hellings and Eva Gallagher, all from Maria Carrillo; Rachel Lawrence, Piner; and Shelby Killen, Ukiah.
