Good news from Rohnert Park: Rancho Cotate WR/DB Jerry Keophilaphanh appears to be all right after a scary Friday-night injury.

Keophilaphanh injured his neck just before halftime in the Cougars’ 48-0 victory over Elsie Allen. He lay on the ground for several minutes, then left the stadium in an ambulance. This morning, Rancho coach Ed Conroy said the dramatic exit was precautionary.

“He left the field with full use of his hands,” Conroy said.

Still, trainers and medical staff wanted to make sure Keophilaphanh didn’t have an injury to the cervical vertebrae. He didn’t, according to Conroy. The 6-foot-1, 175-pound senior, a defensive standout for the Cougars, is believed to have a strained neck – painful in the short term but not of long-term significance.

Conroy’s understanding is that Keophilaphanh, known as Jerry K to the Rancho Cotate faithful, was treated and release Friday night.
