Last week:
Maria Carrillo defeated Santa Rosa, 48-14. Elsie Allen fell to Rancho Cotate, 48-0.
Notable: This a game the Pumas and coach Jay Higgins must have if they are to challenge for the NBL crown … In the win over Santa Rosa, Jake Delfino and Emilio Pollock each scored three times. Delfino got his on the ground while Pollock had two rushing and one on a pass from Sam Atoe … The quarterback completed five-of-six for 31 yards … The Lobos have been shutout three straight games and four of their last five … They have lost 23 straight dating back to 2008.

Piner (0-6, 0-3) at Santa Rosa (2-4, 1-2)
7:30 p.m.
Last week: Piner lost to Montgomery, 41-8. Santa Rosa fell to Maria Carrillo, 48-14.
Notable: Last year, Piner defeated the Panthers, 17-11 … This season, defense has been a problem for the Prospectors. They are allowing an average of 50 points per game … Looking to the future, coach Matt Tomlin is giving most of the snaps to sophomore Austin (Tex) Nahmens. After starting the season on the junior varsity, Nahmens has completed 22 of 43 passes since being promoted … This will be Travis Baker’s third game back for Santa Rosa after being taken off the field by ambulance during the Sept. 17 game against Windsor. The senior had temporary numbness, but his main injury was a concussion … Last week against Carrillo, Tyree Collins scored on a 30-yard jaunt and Travis Jones scampered for a 16-yard touchdown.
Number to note: 5 — The number of TDs Sanchez has scored. His Prospector teammates have two.

Rancho Cotate (5-1, 3-0) at Ukiah (2-4, 1-2)
7:30 p.m.
Last week: Rancho Cotate defeated Elsie Allen, 48-0. Ukiah lost to Cardinal Newman, 42-7.
Notable: The triple option veer offense that Rancho uses has been nearly unstoppable the past five weeks. The Cougars are averaging 50 points in those five victories … The only blemish on Rancho’s record is a two-point loss to Pinole in the season opener … Rancho has only passed 14 times, two of those resulted in touchdowns and two were intercepted … Poueu Peleti-Gore has averaged 18 yards per carry out of the triple option and Brian Dworkin has been gaining yardage at a nine-yard clip … Ukiah is 0-3 on its home field … Unlike Rancho, the Wildcats like to pass. They average 184 through the air and 61 on the ground. Junior quarterback Trevor Taylor has completed 79 of 130 passes, but has been intercepted 11 times. He has thrown seven touchdowns … Aaron Dhuyvetter has caught 33 passes, making him easily Ukiah’s leading receiver … The ground game is averaging fewer than three yards per carry.
