Making her mark early and often, Windsor high graduate Taylor Nelson is leading the Santa Rosa Junior College volleyball team to another possible playoff appearance.

Recently named Big 8 Conference Player of the Week, the freshman tops the Bear Cubs with 108 kills and leads the league with 4.5 kills a game. Nelson also has 14 serving aces to lead Santa Rosa.

A Sonoma County League first team selection her senior year at Windsor, the outside hitter has become an all-around player for Santa Rosa.

Nelson has a great attitude on the court and keeps the team calm, said Santa Rosa coach Kelly Wood.

Playing in the always tough Big 8, the Bear Cubs are ranked 10th in the state.

Last season, Santa Rosa won two games in the North half of the state playoffs to reach the California Community College Athletic Association final eight. The Bear Cubs went 1-2 in the tournament.
