Quarterfinal NCS predictions

Six matches pitting Empire teams against either Marin or SF squads highlight Saturday’s North Coast Section quarterfinal soccer playoff games.

But maybe the best match of the day will be at Analy where a pair of Sonoma County League squads – the Analy Tigers and the Windsor Jaguars – will square off.

The most lopsided affair? The vote here goes to the Casa Grande girls playing host to Windsor. The Jags aren’t all that bad, but the Gauchos are acting like they want to make a statement in this season’s tournament.

All that said, here are the predictions for Saturday’s games:

Saturday’s Games

Div. I

Marin Catholic at Montgomery, 7 p.m.

PREDICTION: Marin Catholic 3, Montgomery 2
FINAL: Montgomery 1, Marin Catholic 0

The Vikings are going up against the defending champs. MC is far from the team that won it all a year ago, but they won’t be easy to beat especially since they are underdogs.

Redwood at Maria Carrillo, 5 p.m.

PREDICTION: Maria Carrillo 4, Redwood 2
FINAL: Maria Carrillo 1, Redwood 0

The Pumas looked like the real deal vs. Sonoma Valley in their tournament opener. But the Pumas aren’t going all the way unless their defense plays better.

Windsor at Analy, 7 p.m.

PREDICTION: Windsor 3, Analy 2
FINAL: Analy 1, Windsor 0

The game of the night. When they played at this site during the regular season, Analy won handily, but it wasn’t pretty … in fact it was downright ugly. Yellow, Reds all over the place. Might be a lot tamer tonight and that would help Windsor. If they can control their emotions, the Jags will win.

Cardinal Newman vs. Tamalpais at Drake High, 2 p.m.

PREDICTION: Tamalpais 3, Cardinal Newman 1
FINAL: Cardinal Newman 1, Tampalpais 0

Can the Cardinals be the surprise team of the boys tournament? Maybe. No reason they can’t win this game, but will they?

Div. II

Cloverdale at Marin Academy, 3 p.m.

PREDICTION: Marin Academy 9, Cloverdale 0
FINAL:  Marin Academy 1, Cloverdale 0

Cloverdale has an impressive record, but winning at Marin… won’t happen.

St. Vincent at Willits, 7 p.m.

PREDICTION: St. Vincent wins in penalty kicks.
FINAL: St. Vincent 2, Willits 1

This one is a tossup and I fully expect it to go to PKs. Give the visitors a slight edge, ever so slight.

SF University at Justin-Siena, 7 p.m.

PREDICTION: Justin-Siena 5, SF University 0
FINAL: Justin-Siena 3, SF University 2

Few around here will care, but Justin-Siena should win this contest handily.

Gateway at Fort Bragg, 7 p.m.

PREDICTION: Fort Bragg 4, Gateway 1
FINAL: Fort Bragg 2, Gateway 1

Here is a prediction within a prediction: The winner of this game will make it to the finals. And it will be Fort Bragg cause they have the home field advantage and that ride to Fort Bragg alone will do in Gateway.

Div. III

Bay School of SF at Anderson Valley, 2 p.m.

PREDICTION: Anderson Valley 3, Bay School of SF 1
FINAL: Anderson Valley 1, Bay School of SF 0

AV has more than doubled the number of wins Bay School has on the season. That’s about all you need to know.

Drew School at Redwood Christian, 3 p.m.

PREDICTION: Drew School 2, Redwood Christian 1
FINAL: Drew School 3, Redwood Christian 1

Drew School won 6 games in the regular season and then scored eight goals in its first playoff game. Sounds like a good enough reason for them to win Saturday night’s game.

Point Arena at Fremont Christian, 2 p.m.

PREDICTION: Fremont Christian 2, Point Arena 1
FINAL: Fremont Christian 2, Point Arena 0

Although it shouldn’t have worked out this way, PA is giving up the homefield advantage to Fremont Christian. Will that make a difference? Yes and no but you still can’t overlook Point Arena in this game.

Sonoma Academy at RVC, 3 p.m.

PREDICTION: Sonoma Academy 1, RVC 0
FINAL: Sonoma Academy 2, RVC 0

The Coyotes have a playoff win under their collective belts. Now it’s time to focus on winning cause there will never be another moment like this.

Div. I

Rancho Cotate at Maria Carrillo, 7 p.m.

PREDICTION: Maria Carrillo 5, Rancho Cotate 1
FINAL: Maria Carrillo 3, Rancho Cotate 0

That Green & Gold Puma Machine rolls on Saturday night. The Ranch just doesn’t have the firepower to match up with MC.

Ursuline at Santa Rosa, 7 p.m.

PREDICTION: Ursuline 3, SR 1
FINAL: Santa Rosa def. Ursuline, 4-3 PKs

The thought was that the Bears are the underdogs of the tournament. That thought hasn’t changed any.

Analy at Montgomery, 5 p.m.

PREDICTION: Montgomery 3, Analy 0
FINAL: Montgomery 1, Analy 0

Vikings, Vikings, Vikings. It will be all Vikings all the time on Saturday.

Windsor at Casa Grande, 7 p.m.

PREDICTION: Casa Grande 4, Windsor 0
FINAL: Casa Grande 4, Windsor 0

You really don’t want to play the Gauchos at tournament time. And you really don’t want to play them when they have a chip on their shoulder. The thought here is that CG is out to prove they are being dissed this season.

Div. II

St. Bernard vs. Roseland Prep at Elsie Allen High, 7 p.m.

PREDICTION: Roseland Prep 2, St. Bernard 0
FINAL: Roseland Prep 2, St. Bernard 1

Roseland Prep is the top seed. Now they must prove it.

RVC at Cloverdale, 7 p.m.

PREDICTION: RVC 4, Cloverdale 1
FINAL: RVC def. Cloverdale, 5-3, PKs

RVC has one loss this season, hard to go against any team with one defeat.

St. Helena vs. St. Vincent at Rancho Cotate High, 7 p.m.

PREDICTION: St. Vincent 5, St. Helena 2
FINAL: St. Vincent 3, St. Helena 1

Is this the year that St. Vincent wins? Yes.

Clear Lake at Middletown, 7 p.m.

PREDICTION: Middletown 3, Clear Lake 2
FINAL: Middletown def. Clear Lake, 10-8, PKs

Middletown is 16-1-1. Are they that good? We are about to find out. But the answer here is yes.
