No doubting Britt’s optimism

Optimism is not something that Elise Britt is lacking.

“What do you mean IF we win?” she reponded on Tuesday to a question regarding her UCLA women’s team NCAA Div. I Sweet 16 match at Stanford at 7 p.m. Friday.

Hard to argue with the Bruin senior who is a Montgomery High product. Afterall she scored the winning penalty kick in an opening-round tournament victory over Brigham Young and then she followed that up with a header goal at the end of the first half that proved to be the winner in a 2-1 third-round victory over Central Florida.

“This whole experience at UCLA has been amazing,” Britt said. “It’s crazy how this team all gets along so well.”

They’ll have to get along well on Friday night. The Bruins lost on Oct. 10 to the Cardinal, 2-0.

“We did pretty well in that game,” Britt said, “but we can play better than that.”

Going by Britt’s mantra, WHEN NOT IF, the Bruins advance Friday night they will face the winner of the Florida State-Marquette game in the quarterfinals sometime after Thanksgiving.
